Title: Troublesome Transition
Author: [info]mimiheart
Summary: Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome. ~Isaac Asimov

Heed the character death warning, although this isn't angsty at all. Snape's dead (the canon way) at the beginning, and someone else dies at the end of it (shifty eyed look). As plots go, this has a novel premise: since Harry left a 'part' of his soul in the realm of the dead, he has to spend part of his 'life' there, namely the hours when he's asleep, and Snape's been given the unenviable task of being his mentor there. There are some humorous moments, as Snape ends up counseling Harry about 'marriage night' sex and gives him pointers, etc. The fic continues through Harry's life, his and Snape's relationship becoming more and more personal, until who knows which life is most important to Harry? The one during the day when he's awake, or this 'dead' life he inhabits when he sleeps? (Not saying anymore about that).

The best thing about this story is that she manages to tell almost the entire fic using only dialogue, and she does it well.

Title: For the Love of a Good Woman
Author: [info]empathic_siren
Summary: Love defines our choices, our lives, our everything. How does it define Snape and Harry? Harry finds out when he learns that Snape has unexpectedly died. Over the course of seven days, we learn of the relationship he and Harry had after the war, and what it meant to Harry, what it meant to Severus.

Heed the character death warning, and so far as the content of the story, her summary covers that very well. Her characterization of Ginny alone makes this worthwhile and unusual. I will say that this story will hit you hard, particularly if you've ever lost someone suddenly or tragically. But it will soothe you too, in that way that only true empathy can. I know there are quite a few readers who shun character death in fics; this would be a good time to take a chance. Oh, and don't forget to breathe while you read.
