Title: Sadness of Eros
Author:
loupgarou1750
Summary: The open palm of desire wants everything*, or Harry cheats.
All right, some things need to be said here about this rec. First, it's an infidelity story, in that Harry, after a complicated marriage and three children, finally has to face up to the fact that he's unhappy, and that despite his rationalizations over the year, he's been consistenly unfaitful, albeit infrequently. Second, I love the way this author writes: the way she puts words together, how her narrative is realistic and gutsy, how there's nothing contrived in her dialogue. She has the ability to reach down inside of me and strum some things that don't often get touched by what I find in fanfiction.
Harry is so flawed but endearingly frank, so needy that it hurts, confused to the point of being pathetic; there are places in the story where I want to smack him--he loves his children, his wife, but there's no end to his narcissism, it seems, and about which he has a blind spot. The old gang is all there. Loup's Ginny is about the best I've ever read--strong enough in herself to balance a career and a family and be outraged by Harry's lapses. Ron, Hermione and Luna are well-done, but the best of the D.A putting in an appearance is Neville, whose maturity and loyalty shame the duplicitous Harry. And courage too--he's had the strength of character to do what Harry hasn't even managed to face, let alone act upon.
Snape in all his canon glory--you all know what I mean, I think. He's not pretty, all the rough edges are still there. He's got Harry figured out from the start, and isn't about to make all of Harry's dreams come true just because he's Harry's 'preoccupation' of the moment. And when it's time, he's strong enough to give Harry an ultimatum and stick to it.
Oh yeah, there's glory-hole sex. I know if I were reading a rec, that alone would probably be enough to convince me to read. But there's so much more in this story to make it worthwhile. This is in my top five of the Games fics. And my god, I hope no one is actually counting how many times I've said that. I think this may be number four. :) The story is complicated and not easy; the ending isn't entirely wrapped up and people, especially the children, have been hurt. But there is peace and contentment and companionship where before there was none.

Title: Seeking Silence
Author:
stepmnstr
Summary: In one seeker's search for silence he finds a new beginning.
Another AR story, this one non-magical. Harry is a submissive who develops a fascination for a certain dom, which then borders on obsession, as this mystery man (awww, just take a guess who) seems to intuit without words what it is exactly that Harry needs. A relatively shorter fic of these Games, but the D/s dynamic done well; the tension that's released at the end left me hoping that the author might continue this series.
