So,
cyrianne sent my granddaughter books for her birthday and Christmas--about eight of Antoon Krings' wonderful children's stories in French. She has a few of them she seems to prefer--she loves Valérie la Chauve-souris, but shuns, literally shuns, Margot L'Escargot. Go figure.
I read them to her in French, sort of, as she turns the pages really quickly, but I know she's at least understood the title character's names.
BUT TONIGHT SHE SAID HER VERY FIRST WORD IN FRENCH!!!!
I was reading her one of her favorites, Pat le Mille-Pattes, in which a recurrent character, Huguette la Guêpe (a wasp), puts in an appearance. I paused, and Vivi pointed and said, 'La guêpe!'
All right, so I knew she'd say something sooner or later, she's TWO, but this isn't the cute little word I'd've imagined. But it's a start. She already understands simple commands and isolated words...and now can say (rolls eyes) 'wasp.'
