Missing

Harry skidded to a stop in the Entrance Hall, suddenly aware of the entire Weasley family gathered outside the Great Hall.

"I know. I'm late, but…" He bit his lip, then looked beseechingly at Ron. "I can't find Severus. I have to talk—"

"Harry, it's time," Ron said, jerking his head toward the door.

"I know, sorry. But…I'll be right back." Turning, he sprinted through the great doors.

He'd checked the dungeons and kitchens, the Towers and library, Room of Requirement and even the Headmistress' office, but... nothing. Out on the grounds, though, he knew he was right when he saw the strangely motionless limbs of the Willow.

Through the trunk, up the tunnel, and into the Shrieking Shack…

And there sat Severus, crouched in a corner, staring into space. Harry sighed, going down on a knee in front of him. "Severus…"

"I'm a miserable failure," the man murmured. "I've ruined everyone I've ever cared for."'

"That's not true," Harry said quietly.

Severus' eyes drifted up to his. "I abandoned my students when they needed me most; I almost failed you, then lay like a bloody carcass while you went off all alone…." He shook his head in disgust.

Harry's voice was low and insistent. "You gave me what I needed most—the truth. And cunning Slytherin that you are, you made sure you survived. That's hardly a failure." He stood and held out his hand. "Get up. I'm getting married today and you're going to be there."

"You deserve better," Severus told him, brushing off his robes.

Harry tipped up Severus' chin and said emphatically, "Sod what I deserve. You're the one I want. Now, there're fifty guests waiting to hear us say our vows. Unless you've changed your mind…"

Severus' eyes were shimmering, full of wonder. "Never."
