FIC: Building Beauty
Title: Building Beauty
Author: [info]joanwilder aka RaeWhit
Pairing: Harry/Severus
Rating: PG
Warnings: This is for [info]accioslash for correctly guessing my drabble in [info]snarry_ldws, so I give you Mpreg!
Word Count: 265
Summary: Both Harry and Snape are building something beautiful.

Building Beauty

They hadn't planned it. Not at all. Harry still wasn't sure which one of them had been the more shocked. But like everything else in their lives, they'd adjusted…were still adjusting.

Harry's was the bigger burden, though, as he dealt with a change in body image. He hadn't missed that over the past several months, Severus looked at him almost strangely. Sometimes it seemed like fascination, but other times, he looked away when Harry caught him at it.. So…Harry worried.

Just that morning, he'd stood staring at himself in the mirror, stopped dead in his tracks as he was about to get dressed. He sensed Severus behind him, then watched their reflections as two strong arms encircled him. Severus laced his fingers together beneath Harry's swollen belly, then gently lifted as he rested his chin on Harry's shoulder. "You look beautiful," was all that Severus had said.

So much for worrying.

When Severus was late for supper, Harry found himself standing in the doorway to his lab, watching him work. Bent in over his task, his hands were sure, his mind focused, even though this was something Severus had never made before. And he was doing it the Muggle way.

Sanded cherry wood spindles, dozens of them, and a regal scrolled headboard that would've been fit for any Slytherin or Gryffindor heir, but this crib would hold a 'Prince', instead.

"It's beautiful," Harry said as he leant against the doorjamb.

Looking up, Severus smiled. "You're building a child with your body; the least I could do is build his bed with my hands."

Oh, I have no words! You wrote me mpreg! Achingly lovely and sentimental mpreg! *squees* *sniffles* Oh that was just beautiful! I'm awed by your ability to pack so much story into so few words. I knew you were an old softie!

Thank you, hon. I don't know what else to say.

*hugs* ♥♥♥

A true balm for any jaded soul, my dear. It has a lovely ethereal quality to it, almost dreamlike in its gentle wander through thought and sentiment.

I second Accioslash's awe of your ability to craft a tale with so few words.

*is so green*

Darling, I am very, very picky in my mpreg. I'm an mpreg snob.

*sniffs and reads again with her pinkies up*

And I loved this. What man (a fit man, at that) wouldn't feel odd that his body suddenly starting looking so different...so feminine? Of course he'd feel odd about that.

And Severus' reassurances...

Oh, just beautiful. And I loved that he was fashioning a crib. The idea of Severus as a carpenter is right-on. With his hands...

*sighs*

The group's eyes will roll back in their head when they see I've rec'ed mpreg for sure. : )

You.....wrote.....mpreg.

My world just tilted off axis a bit *rights it back to vertical*

That having been said, I echo the other commentors. Wow...the emotion you can pack into so few words.

but this crib would hold a 'Prince', instead.

I am now officially a puddle of goo. I'm going to smile about that line for the rest of the day. ;)

I'm generally fairly anti m-preg because I think it's often not handled very well but that was really beautiful. An incredible depth of emotion for so few words. And the last line could have been saccharine but turned erm... I'm struggling to find an alternative word to beautiful!
