This is 1200 words, so bite the dust and ignore the pairing if you don't like it. What floored me about this fic was the original and oh so effective formatting that the author tried out here. I've never seen this done this way; she used her formatting to simultaneously present two first-person POVs, with their thoughts sometimes converging. I'm not going to spoil it for content, which is satisfying and for a fic this short, expertly executed. But the formatting alone makes reading it time well-spent.

I've recently had the pleasure to meet an artist named veridian_dair (cathyrf on LJ). She's being doing HP art for a while, but only recently has started to do Snarry.(Her first one was drawn for my Games fic, and you can see it here.)

Via email, we've been talking over the past several weeks about drawing porn. She's a fan of Snarry, and after the pic for my story, she wanted to do moar...you know, take their clothes off...show body parts. I've *cough* been encouraging her, because I really love me some smut like the way she draws, and there can never be enough Snarry art, y'know?

Summary: Harry has a secret hidden away on the remotest of the Shetland Islands.

All right, flist, I know, I know, this is a Harry/Draco. You won't see many of those rec-ed on my LJ, mostly because I don't read many. But I'm caught up on the snarry_games, and since I have a fic of my own (you can guess at the pairing--cough, cough) in hds_beltane, I've been trying to read everything, which isn't too much of a hardship, given that the protagonists are Snape, Harry and Draco in any combination/permutation.

This fic. Forget that it's Harry/Draco. You could very well put Snape in Draco's place and I don't think it would change the stunning impact of the story. And there isn't even that much of a story, just the bare-bones outline of it. Draco's been banished to a Shetland Island after the war, and Harry comes to him most years at Beltane--at first as the dark victor, but things change over the years. There's a hint of breathplay and bondage, imagery that made me want to cry, and a bond between the two of them that's both poignant and powerful, although at the end, it's no longer a matter of who's the victor, but an unstated agreement between the two of them, to dominate and submit.

There's also some companion art interspersed in the story, but really, the author paints her narrative so beautifully that I have to wonder which gives the reader the more vivid picture.

If you're one of the Snarry purists on my flist--take a chance, walk on the wild side (snerk), expand your horizons for the space of 2300 little words. You'll be glad you did. Have I ever led you down the primrose path??
