Title: Norbert et Chloë Author: igtow Summary: Norbert and Chloë are destined to be life-mates, or at least they will be, if they can just find each other. However, to gain true contentment, they have to help their respective humans find their own happiness--hopefully together. An eggsemplum on the meaning of heart's ease and the capricious nature of second chances.
This is the last Team Dragon story, and may I say, we went out with style! A postwar fic, decades later, one in which both Harry and Snape find their comfortable existences turned upside down. The title characters are dragons, drakes, actually, who are instrumental in bringing their owners together. There are great OC's, Rita Skeeter, politics, UST, and if you aren't charmed by Norbert and Chloë by the end, well, then, you need a vacation.
It's long, I know, but there are no more stories to post, and this is one you don't want to miss. It's beautifully written, and when I read it the first time, it was in installments as the writer was writing them. And I found myself checking my email frequently, muttering about the author taking her time. You have the advantage of having it all at once. Go take it.

Title: Beatae Memoriae Author: carawen Summary: 275 years after the final battle, a young man sets out to prove that Harry Potter was not a Dark wizard.
This story is unique in the Games: a tale in which the present is 275 years in the future. Following her prompt of 'tabloid headlines', Harry's descendants uncover details about the years after the second war, which include Harry's marriage and his relationship with a Snape incognito. One of the things I admired most about this story is how skilfully the present day, and its OC's who are now at Hogwarts, and the action from the past are dovetailed together. Also some nifty original magic and some fine storytelling.

Title: Learning to Speak Author: synn Summary: "Most men spend their lives trying to either brush off the ashes of their youth, or rekindle them. The truth is that the only way to move forward is to accept them. "
I almost don't want to say a word about this story. It's one of those reading experiences that you're loath to talk about--you don't want to spoil a thing for the reader; parts of the story that you love are so totally and intricately woven into the whole, that you don't even know where to begin, because if you do, you'll have to describe everything.
Here's my feeble attempt: it's postwar, and some of the heros are in St Mungo's for an extended period of time to 'recover'. Harry manages to send letters out, certain that this is just a mental exercise, as he's certain no one will ever receive them. But...Snape does.
Their identities are hidden from each other, though. Harry returns to Hogwarts to finish, changed. Snape is teaching. The letter-writing continues. There is a beautiful dance of attraction-repulsion between the two of them, Snape now culpable once again, as he knows the letters are from Harry, but continues to write nonetheless.
Soul-building is what happens in this story, all of it communicated with beautiful language and imagery. I cried. I waited for the 'aha!' moment when Snape would be found out. I worried over Harry's reaction, and whether they'd need each other beyond the 'healing' of the past and the war. They did.

Title: Seeking Silence Author: stepmnstr Summary: In one seeker's search for silence he finds a new beginning.
Another AR story, this one non-magical. Harry is a submissive who develops a fascination for a certain dom, which then borders on obsession, as this mystery man (awww, just take a guess who) seems to intuit without words what it is exactly that Harry needs. A relatively shorter fic of these Games, but the D/s dynamic done well; the tension that's released at the end left me hoping that the author might continue this series.

Title: Sadness of Eros Author: loupgarou1750 Summary: The open palm of desire wants everything*, or Harry cheats.
All right, some things need to be said here about this rec. First, it's an infidelity story, in that Harry, after a complicated marriage and three children, finally has to face up to the fact that he's unhappy, and that despite his rationalizations over the year, he's been consistenly unfaitful, albeit infrequently. Second, I love the way this author writes: the way she puts words together, how her narrative is realistic and gutsy, how there's nothing contrived in her dialogue. She has the ability to reach down inside of me and strum some things that don't often get touched by what I find in fanfiction.
Harry is so flawed but endearingly frank, so needy that it hurts, confused to the point of being pathetic; there are places in the story where I want to smack him--he loves his children, his wife, but there's no end to his narcissism, it seems, and about which he has a blind spot. The old gang is all there. Loup's Ginny is about the best I've ever read--strong enough in herself to balance a career and a family and be outraged by Harry's lapses. Ron, Hermione and Luna are well-done, but the best of the D.A putting in an appearance is Neville, whose maturity and loyalty shame the duplicitous Harry. And courage too--he's had the strength of character to do what Harry hasn't even managed to face, let alone act upon.
Snape in all his canon glory--you all know what I mean, I think. He's not pretty, all the rough edges are still there. He's got Harry figured out from the start, and isn't about to make all of Harry's dreams come true just because he's Harry's 'preoccupation' of the moment. And when it's time, he's strong enough to give Harry an ultimatum and stick to it.
Oh yeah, there's glory-hole sex. I know if I were reading a rec, that alone would probably be enough to convince me to read. But there's so much more in this story to make it worthwhile. This is in my top five of the Games fics. And my god, I hope no one is actually counting how many times I've said that. I think this may be number four. :) The story is complicated and not easy; the ending isn't entirely wrapped up and people, especially the children, have been hurt. But there is peace and contentment and companionship where before there was none.

Title: Aberrations of Love and Hate Author: hpstrangelove Summary: Harry Evans knew he should hate Severus Snape for what he was doing to him. No matter what words Snape made Harry say as far as choice went, Snape was still effectively forcing Harry to have sex with him, or so Snape thought. But as far as Harry was concerned, it couldn't be considered force if he wanted and enjoyed all the wonderfully depraved things Snape did to him.
This is a great Alternate Reality story, one in which Snape hates Harry for an entirely different reason, one in which Harry's parents, his aunt and uncle, are all there, but altered. The trio is now Draco, Harry and Hermione, and there's marvelous potions lore and original magic, an interference into the Muggle world, and a relationship between Harry and Snape that's initially brutal. Lucius is a sympathetic character, and oh yeah, Tom Riddle's there too. You won't like him in this one either. :) I can't say more; I've probably said too much as it is.
The writing is good, and the story long, and so worth an evening or two of reading.

Title: Rights and Rituals Author: ivylady Summary: Drastic measures were taken to ensue Severus's aid to Harry. Years later, the two discover the depths of their connection.
This is a story that follows three separate time lines. Movement between the three is clearly marked, and paced so that they all come to their zeniths at the conclusion of the fic. There's the threat of a new dark lord, but the best parts of this story are the rituals and original magic. Oh yeah, I should mention there's Mpreg, but it's not overpowering.
It's an enjoyable read, and in the end, Snape and Harry are where most like them to be--together.

Title: Ghost Story Author: aqua_alta Summary: After his defeat of Voldemort in the final battle, Harry forgot something very important, which is brought to his attention some years later. He has to resort to drastic measures to prevent terrible things from happening.
This is an Epilogue compliant fic, in which the action takes place prior to the birth of Harry's second child. It becomes imperative that Harry find the Resurrection Stone and take care of its existence once and for all. The only one who can do this is Snape--a very dead Snape in this story. What follows is a haunting encounter between the two of them, where Harry endeavors to convince Snape to take the Stone; Snape finally agrees, but he has a price. Hehe. Doesn't he always?
It's a short fic, but it packs a powerful punch.

Title: The Sleeping Prince Author: who_la_hoop Summary: It's hard to ignore your past — and impossible to do so when you can't remember your future. But a meddlesome portrait, a dragon with an ancient grudge and true love's kiss teach an unlikely Prince that a regrettable past doesn't have to mean an unhappy ending.
Not many stories make me cry--I'm too jaded, I guess. But this one did. Not because it's sad, but because of a beautiful moment where Harry is literally gifted with a glimpse of the woman that Lily was. The story also features a de-aged Snape (after a wonderful moment in the beginning of the fic where Snape actually catches on fire), and the adolescent dance between Harry and this vulnerable version of Snape, in all of their teen-aged fumbling glory, was the best part of the story for me.
It has original magic and a conclusion with adult Snape that made me feel like I'd just finished my box of chocolates and was happily ready for a nap. You definitely don't want to miss this one.

When the phoenix had reached his ascension, He flamed out too brightly to mention. But the dragon just sighed With a roll of his eye "Oh him, he's desperate for attention."

Title: Of Cabbages and Kings Author: jadzialove Summary: Harry was supposed to enjoy life after the war. Instead, he can barely stay awake for it. Running out of hope, he finds help from the most unusual sources, and in a wholly unexpected place.
This story has as its premise one of my favorite slash clichés: magical bonding that is unintentional, but with catastrophic sequelae. I don't want to give too much of the plot away (I seem to be saying that a lot lately), but of course it's Harry and Snape. It goes undetected for a while, but then it's discovered because it's causing Harry some...interesting...side effects. So Harry sets off to find Snape. From there, just sit back and enjoy the ride and what this author does so well--Harry and Snape, head-to-head, toe-to-toe, cohabiting the same household as they struggle to sort out this connection. There's the smell of fresh-baked bread, a cat, wanking, and Snape with a chicken. And if that last bit doesn't get you to read, then consider that the quality of her writing is top-notch.

The dragon admired the view: Unobstructed skies of powder blue, Not a phoenix in sight And he said with delight, "Thank god for the Avian Flu."

The roar of the dragon is awesome The squawk of the phoenix just plain dumb. While one fire-calls The other just bawls And waits for the dragon to eat him.

Title: Acceptable Losses Author: draconic_girl Summary: An unexpected sacrifice opens the doorway to a new life for Severus Snape.
Snape lives, but there's a twist. With the help of Aberforth Dumbledore, he sorts out his life and 'returns'. I'm not going to spoil the surprise, but of course there is a relationship that develops between Harry and this altered Snape. As well as an intriguing sibling animosity between Albus and Aberforth, a side dish of Andromeda and Teddy. I do love stories where Harry goes back to finish his seventh year, don't you? :)

Title: Deconstruction of an Architect Author: dacro Summary: A reporter once asked of me, ‘Sir. If the most notable moments of your life were to be documented for the stage, how many acts would there be, and what would they be called?’ I was of a mind to ignore him, and yet an answer came to my lips—much to my surprise. “Four acts—in no certain order: Death of a Father, Death of a Servant, The Bridge, and The Arrival of the Boy." There is also this movement, a fifth and final act that I neglected to share with him. It has no title as of yet.
Set in Edwardian England, the author does something amazing: told in 1st person POV, the narrative style is Victorian as well. It took me a paragraph or two to realize what she'd done, and the rest is all admiration.
An AR story, no magic, where Snape's a mentor who raises Harry, who was first taken in as a houseboy by Snape's servant Albus. Interwoven with the story of their relationship is Snape's architectural project of a lifetime: the building of the London Tower Bridge. It'd be fascinating as a documentary, but used as it is here, as the framework for the telling of Harry's growing to manhood, it's irresistible. This is one you won't want to miss.

Title: The Truth of Legends Author: babblingbrook42 Summary: When Severus’s great uncle dies, he leaves Severus the estate and an unknown and unmentioned ward who is more than meets the eye.
This is a veritable dragon fest--an AR fic that features all your favorite canon characters in an altered reality, Harry as the ward of the estate that Snape's inherited, and another Team Dragon adorable dragon who features prominently and will steal your heart away. The author's got some very original myth-like backstory that made me all happy inside, and the Snarry itself is imbued with all those things that make a Snarry sing: misunderstandings, snark and belligerence, UST, then a unified front against a common foe.
