Title: Sex, Lies, and Audiobooks Author: RaeWhit ( aka joanwilder) Team: Snitch! Genre: Alive and Kicking (EWE) Prompts: Secrets and Lies, Coming Home Rating/Warnings/Kinks: NC-17, mild bondage, whipping Word Count: 48,000+ Summary: Belonging and deserving, needing and wanting—desires of the human heart that Severus and Harry must face when they're forced to the little village of Lochdubh to settle a very late codicil of Albus Dumbledore's will.
Author Notes: The village of Lochdubh and its inhabitants in this story are the property of BBC Scotland (from the series Hamish Macbeth). All things Harry Potter belong to J.K. Rowling et al. I'd be remiss if I didn't express my appreciation to Rudyard Kipling for his masterpiece, Captains Courageous.
This is my journal posting of my 2009 Mixed snarry_games fic. My heartfelt appreciation to jadzialove for the excellent beta reading, to whitecotton for help with Scottish-izing my Scottish, and to sestra_prior for her assistance with British questions.
This is posted in six parts; subsequent parts have been linked.

Title: A Tempest Brewing Artist: lizardspots Team: Snitch Genre(s): Mentor/Severitus (*Click for the Severitus Challenge*) Prompt(s): Stormy Weather, The Long Goodbye Rating/Warnings/Kinks: PG-13
This is Severitus (drum roll, please....) incest! Ah yeah, been waiting for this one, and the artist chose to depict THAT moment--you know the one that I mean, the one where the two of them have it out, because one of them knew and didn't tell the other, and instead let teh Snarry-smut go on. Oh yeah, this is angsty, and it's raining, and they're up on top of the Astronomy Tower, and you hold your breath because Harry's so angry...and then...OH YEAH. This is graphic novel style, done in pencil, and as usual Lizard's characters and detail are beautiful. And that kiss at the end is one of the best ones of the Games!
Title: Rapture Author: Mia Ugly mia_ugly Team: Snitch Genre(s): Time-Travel Prompt(s): The Long Goodbye, Achilles Heel Rating/Warnings/Kinks: NC17 Summary: Snape sees the man, for the first time, on his twenty-fifth birthday.
Having read all the fics in the Games (except for three, which I've partially read and skimmed the rest of), I have no qualms about saying this is my favorite story in the Games. Actually, it's the best Snarry I've read in a long while. The author will dismantle you, and then put you back together again. It's an intermittent time travel fic, but never confusing. Harry's determined and desperate, Snape (at 25-34 yrs of age) is emotionally and socially stunted, to the point that you'll cry for him. The sex is real, lays bare both their vulnerabilities, and there are several times in this story that the magnitude of Snape's sacrifice, his unselfish, unwavering integrity will break through and...make you cry again. It ends in present day, fittingly, and there is hope. I'm not saying more, because embarking on this fic is a journey that everyone should experience unspoilt. I read this months ago for the first time, and it's been on my mind ever since. Rereading it, I'm finding I'm doomed to months more of the same. I don't need to tell you about the writing, or the plot subtleties, or the how the author has that ability to make you feel like you're in the very room with her characters. It's what Mia does in each and every one of her stories. So get a cup of {beverage of choice} and settle in for a few hours--you won't be able to stop once you start.\
The last entry of the Games has been posted. Thanks to everyone who followed. There's a week for 'catch-up' reading/viewing, and you can still vote!

Title: Guy Who...? Artist: morganlefay1958 Team: Snitch Genre(s): Genderbender, Fusion Prompt(s): Eat Cake Rating/Warnings/Kinks: PG13
I have a fondness for art done in pencil and ink, so that's the first thing I'll mention about this. It's a composite entry, based on the artist's own WIP. Harry's a woman (due to a Dark arts curse), who runs a diner where they serve cinnamon buns that Severus loves. There's a cute interaction between the two of them, where it's clear that Severus doesn't like to share (Harry or his buns), then a lovely genderbending explicit scene where Harry's getting his bits groped! Hee!
Title: Tombstone, the Town Too Tough To Die Author: wook77 Team: Snitch! Genre(s): Alive and Kicking (EWE) Prompt(s): Second Impression, Go West Rating/Warnings/Kinks: PG-13 Summary: Some of the things you find in Tombstone – copper, cowboys, rattlesnakes, sunshine, wooden sidewalks, gunfights, and one Severus Snape (the man too tough to die).
I do love to see fics where Snape and Harry are transplanted into new places, but their canon past is preserved. This is a funny, well-written fic, not very long, in which Harry discovers, lo and behold, that Snape is very alive and well and living in Tombstone. Great dialogue between the two of them; I howled, srsly, howled. Snape is at his snarky, withering best, and Harry's mature enough to give it right back at 'im, and push at the end to give us a very Snarry conclusion. Really enjoyed the writer's style and panache!

Title: Dream a Bloody Dream Artist: Ponderosa Team: Snitch Genre: Mentor Prompts: Secrets and Lies, Consequences Rating/Warnings/Kinks: PG
This is a darker piece, and it took me a while to figure it out. I think I'm used to 'getting' it right away, but once I took my time to consider the genre and prompts, and carefully look at the clues the artist gave, it turns out there's been a horrible crime committed, and the detective agency on the case is Potter-Snape. Harry and Snape are grim in this, because this murder's hit close to home. Done in a film-noir style, the artist uses color and multiple collage type images to tell this story. Mentor is the genre, and I can't help but believe that the two of them will find justice in the end.
Title: Death and the Open Mind Author: loupgarou1750 Team: Snitch Genre(s): Alive and Kicking (EWE) Prompt(s): Can You Hear Me?/Last Hope Rating/Warnings/Kinks: NC-17 Summary: Harry's having nightmares, blurting out rude things, causing trauma, generally behaving badly, and thinks he may be going mad.
First, I love the way Loup writes. Every single time. Honest dialogue, raw visceral emotion, real pathos and scary inner workings of the mind--in this case, Harry's. He's sort of unraveling because this little voice in his head has suddenly seemed to have had enough, enough of everyone and everything, and oh my god, he thinks he's losing it. Turns out, though, he's *cough* been infested by the thought processes of someone who's gone but not quite dead. This inner monologue between Snape and Harry is the showpiece of the story. Even though Snape isn't physically present, you almost forget that little detail. Of course, Harry can't leave him that way, so hijinks ensue to get him back. Emotionally wrenching and heartfelt, this'll have you on the edge of your chair and reading way into the wee hours. And will leave you with a smile.

Title: What Would You Do for Love? Artist: plantinshadows Team: Snitch!!! Genre(s): Gender Bender and/or Crossdressing; Literary and/or Historical Prompt(s): Love and Marriage Rating/Warnings/Kinks: PG
The artist has a summary that explains the story in the subsequent panels, which draw off of her title. What would you do for love? This is the story of forbidden love, and how sacrifices are made so the lovers can be together. I think we're all well-aware of the hurt in our own time that's come from prejudice, so although this is a story of nineteenth century England, it's pertinent to our current society as well. The art is beautiful, the scenes she chose to portray are strategic ones, and the one where Harry sits and deliberates what he's about to do, made me tear up.
Title: This Noble Land by Conquest Won Author: Hysterical Hystorian abigail89 Team: Snitch Genre(s): Alive and Kicking Prompt(s): Go West, Symphony Rating/Warnings/Kinks: R Summary: Harry and Severus have found life sweet amongst Muggles in Vermont. But their peaceful world is shattered one day in a most unexpected way.
This is an established relationship Snarry, one in which I love how comfortable the two of them are with each other. There're intriguing occupations for both of them as they hide from wizarding England in rural Vermont. Mary Anne is an OC who made me laugh out loud. This author does dialogue so well, and there's a plot involving 'family revenge' that shows that Snape and Harry weren't as secluded as they thought they were. This is a fast read, an enjoyable one, with some quiet moments and reflections (Snape driving a car, enjoying the wind in his hair) that I found beautiful.

Title: Stardust Artist: xingou Team: Team Snitch Genre(s): Crossovers/Fusion & Alive and Kicking (EWE) Prompt(s): Glam Rock Rating/Warnings/Kinks: Rated: PG
This is a delightful pic, and I had to look at it for a few seconds before I got that twinkle in my eye. Hehe. Great colors, lovely posing, and yes! It's Glam Rock!Snarry. I was so glad to see that folks picked up this prompt and did such a great job with it, as did this artist.
Title: The Fourth Deathly Hallow Author: Gingertart gingertart50 Team: Snitch Genre(s): Fandom Crossovers and Literary and/or Historical Prompt(s): Code of Honour Rating/Warnings/Kinks: PG Summary: From the private journal of John. H. Watson MD; not intended for publication. Being an account of the strange case of the Fourth Deathly Hallow; in which Dr John H. Watson and Mr Sherlock Holmes save a life, discover the true secret of Professor Moriarty, unravel a time loop or two, encounter a femme fatale, imbibe potions, break into and out of a wizarding mansion, hide in a male brothel, go shopping, track down a magical artefact, almost attend a ritual sacrifice, fail to be Obliviated and totally ignore the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy of 1692, all in the company of a lank-haired, irascible but secretly besotted schoolmaster, a bemused aristocrat and an increasingly perceptive and enamoured young hero.
The summary itself tells you a great deal, so I'll not repeat any of it. Harry and Draco and Snape end up in nineteenth century England, rescued from their 'landing' by Watson, drawn into the battle against the DL of that era, all the while searching for the elusive fourth Hallow, without which they cannot return to their own time. There's some great relationship building in this story, and not just the Snarry. Holmes and Snape are wonderfully IC, Draco and Harry begrudgingly set aside their differences, fascinating OCs appear, all the while the reader is skillfully indoctrinated into Watson's London. Plenty of action in this story, but you're never lost; there are some of those gratifying ties to the Wizarding world we all know, things from the past that tie into the present and vice-versa. This is immediately post Shrieking Shack, so there's some resolution that must occur; this is a time when morés were different, so it's interesting to watch the narrator struggle with what's 'acceptable' and what seems 'reasonable.
This is long, but it's so very worth the read. The crossover needs no explanation, and by the end of this, I was thinking...must go find me some more of this!

Title: The Wild, Wizarding West Artist: chazpure Team: Team Snitch Genre(s): Crossover/Fusions Prompt(s): Fire and Sword, Go West Rating/Warnings/Kinks: None Artist's Notes/Disclaimers/Thank you to: In the aftermath of the US Civil War, Sorcerous Agents Potter and Snape traveled by private railway car together throughout the West for the newly formed Secret Service. Potter, a charming wandslinger and peerless flyer, and Snape, brilliant potions brewer and master of disguise, formed a deep, if unlikely bond as they faced countless dangers together.
This is a wonderful fusion of Snarry and the Wild Wild West. If you're old enough to remember the TV series, you'll laugh your head off. If you're not, you'll still get a kick out it. It's in graphic novel form--the art is great, but the written text is even better. The artist has managed to capture the campiness of the episodes: there's Voldie in a cowboy hat, Bella Polyjuiced as Harry, Harry in a union suit, and he also has Snitch spurs. And there's a plot, with our heroes besting the bad guys in the end, then a final full color piece of art, showing them celebrating their victory, in true Snarry style. Oh, Snape's legs!
Title: Sands of Time Author: rons_pigwidgeon Team: Snitch Genre(s): Time Travel, Fandom Crossovers and/or Fusions Prompt(s): Sands of Time Rating/Warnings/Kinks: NC-17 Summary: Harry is on the hunt for a serial killer, who is bent on making his mark by murdering famous wizards and witches in Time. While testing a special Time-Turner that can move both forwards and backwards in Time, Harry and Severus have an accident and find themselves in the middle of the underground facilities of Torchwood. They soon find out that these strange Muggles can help them track their killer and solve the crime.
This is a Torchwood crossover, and the wizarding world seems to have a serial killer who travels through time. Harry and Snape enlist the aid of Jack Harkness et al, and there's Harry/Jack, an intriguing plot with an unexpected villain, and Draco in a role I've not seen before. There's a surprise twist in Harry's choice of occupation at the end, but it fits, and Snape's all right with it. You don't need to know TW to enjoy this ride, and I even started to like Jack by the time I was finished. An enjoyable read!

Title: Devils And Angels At The Helm Artist: wotchertonks7 Team: Snitch Genre(s): Literary Prompt(s): Pride and Prejudice/ Angels and Demons Rating/Warnings/Kinks: PG13
This is one of those 'good vs bad' angels on your shoulder things. It's a cartoon, and Harry is beset by his inner angel and demon as he considers his Potions master. The progression of what these two tell him is hysterical, and Harry finally succumbs and 'makes his move'. Snape, of course, responds in a predictably hysterical manner, and honestly, I just howled with laughter through the entire thing, especially at the one frame where the angel, demon and Harry are all in agreement.
Title: The Weight We Carry Author: atypicalsnowman Team: Snitch! Genre: Alive and Kicking Prompts: Dream a Little Dream, Can You Hear Me? Rating/Warnings/Kinks: NC-17 Summary: The morning after the battle at Hogwarts, Harry wakes up to find himself alone and the task of defeating Voldemort uncompleted. Overwhelmed and suffering from strange nightmares, Harry finds the strength to finish it for the last time when Snape arrives to help.
This story occurs in the immediate aftermath of the war. Harry wakes up to the horrible discovery that Voldemort isn't dead; he must've missed a Horcrux. Snape is there to help him, and Harry has horrible dreams. But WAIT! All is not as it seems, and the author does a damn fine job of playing with the reader. I won't spoil it for you, but to say that there's a believable progression of Harry seeing Snape as a person, a heart-wrenching realization by Harry that he really is disappointed that he didn't die, and then he and Snape 'find' each other, and hot sex ensues. But what will happen when reality rights itself, is the question. This story engaged me from beginning to end, had had me doing that 'must read non-stop' maneuver.

Title: Don't Die From Me, My Love Artist: a_belladonna Team: Team Snitch Genre(s): Historical Prompt(s): Hold my hand, Candle in the window Rating/Warnings/Kinks: G:
This is a beautiful watercolor, with an historical genre. I'm not certain of the exact reference, but there's a central posing of the two that's so sad and radiates love and compassion. It makes me think they might be in a monastery, but that's just a guess. Nevertheless, it's heartbreaking and compelling.
Title: Play the Game Author: hpstrangelove Team: Snitch Genre: Alive and Kicking Prompts: Play the Game, Underworld Rating/Warnings/Kinks: NC-17 Summary: When Auror Harry Potter goes missing during an investigation of a wizarding sex club where abducted Muggles are being forced to work, his best friend and former lover, Draco Malfoy, calls upon the reclusive Severus Snape for help. For six years, Severus has refused to have anything to do with Harry, wishing that he’d never given Harry his memories in the Shrieking Shack. Now that Harry is missing, he is having second thoughts about rejecting Harry’s offers of friendship. After searching for six months, Draco and Severus are beginning to think they won’t find Harry alive. Harry, meanwhile, is barely surviving, and thinks that the person responsible for his imprisonment and torture – is Severus Snape.
First, heed the warnings, ho! There's non-con, torture and all manner of sexual perversion, but there is a really well-developed plot that takes Harry captive to the U.S. and sets Draco and Snape in action to find him. I beta read this one, and I smugly thought I had it figured out, but I was wrong! The sexual torture in this took a great deal of imagination and descriptive ability on the part of the author, and Harry suffers, of course, but he still isn't broken. There are parts to this that had me digging at my skin and even flinching, like a good non-con torture-y fic should, and I had a moment when I wondered if it'd all turn out, and I can assure you that...Haaaaaa, sucker, you thought I'd tell you?! Excellent read!

Title: Mis-firing Portkey (or Typical Men) Artist: tripperfunster Team: Little Balls, baby! Genre(s): Crossover/Timetravel Prompt(s): Consequences Rating/Warnings/Kinks: G; None Artist's Notes Imagine, if you will, a mis-firing portkey in the form of a television remote. Of course, being male, Harry and Snape STILL have to fight over it, despite the dire consequences.
So, the two typical men here are fighting over a TV remote (HAAAAA!), and it turns out to be a Portkey that misfires and sends them hurtling into a number of different universes. You'll recognize the other pairings here. There's Sponge Bob, of course (this is tripper, for god's sake), and Bert and Ernie and Kirk and Spock, and it's so much fun to consider the possibilities! Great color and this is Tripp at her cartoonish best! I looked at this for at least ten minutes, grinning from ear to ear.
Title: His Mother's Eyes Author: nestinghedwig (LinW) Team: Team Snitch Genre(s): Mentor Prompt(s): Coming Home, Into Temptation Rating/Warnings/Kinks: PG13 Summary: AU. When Arabella Figg defies Albus Dumbledore, Severus takes his chance at redemption.
This is a beautiful mentor fic that begins when Snape is just twenty-five. It's what happens when other responsible adults step in and take charge of Harry's miserable childhood at the Dursleys. Faced with the fact of Harry's abuse, Snape becomes involved, then becomes a victim himself. There's a lovely Italian setting, a strong hero!Flitwick, a satisfying relationship between the recuperating Snape and a six year old Harry. Running through it all is the spectre of the ominous chess game that a manipulative and unsympathetic Dumbledore is playing with more than one person's life. I really enjoyed this story, and found myself rooting for both Snape and Harry to escape their canon fates.

Title: Some Enchanted Evening Artist: karasu_hime Team: Team Snitch Genre(s): Crossdressing Prompt(s): Dream a Little Dream and Some Enchanted Evening Rating/Warnings/Kinks: Rated: G
This is one of those entries you have to pause while viewing, because something happens. Oh, does it ever. Harry and Snape are cutting a fine figure on the dance floor(lovely lines, dipped in a tango), when Harry casts a spell on his partner, and yeah, you get to watch the transformation right before your eyes. I can't even begin to understand how this is done; it's sort of up there with trying to figure out how I can fit 500 songs on a 2 x 3 inch piece of metal. Bah, I don't need to fully understand it to enjoy it, and the same is true here. I actually gasped.
Title: Rook Castling Kingside Author: whitecotton Team: Snitch Genre(s): Alive and Kicking Prompt(s): Playing the Game and Last Hope Rating/Warnings/Kinks: NC-17 Summary: Severus knows he is going to die in the war and is more than happy to oblige. Too long he has been the rook to Dumbledore’s queen, protector of Harry Potter – the king. Now he yearns only for peace. As the war with the Dark Lord intensifies, he makes his plans and indulges in recollection.
This is a wartime fic that follows the canon timeline, but it's been enriched by a non-linear narrative that goes back and changes a few crucial details, the most important being that Harry is aware ahead of time what Dumbledore has asked Snape to do, and in the end, this turns out to make all the difference, for both of them. This is one of those fics you're going to have to trust me on, because to divulge too much will spoil it. I will say that this author has one of the best grasps on how I hear Snape speak in my head; I enjoyed the dialogue in this story immensely; her Snape is IC, his machinations seem horrible at first, but then the reader begins to understand, and is in awe. I started to read this and didn't look away from the monitor until I finished, and was shocked at how long I'd sat there, completely absorbed.

Title: Death Shall Have No Dominion Artist: littleblackbow Team: Snitch Genre(s): Crossover Prompt(s): Go West, Death shall have no dominion Rating/Warnings/Kinks: Rating: PG; None Artist's Notes/Disclaimers/Thank you to: Dark Shadows was a supernatural soap opera from the 60's that takes place in a fishing village in Maine and the Collinwood estate that overlooks the town. It has a cult following among many of us who love vampires, werewolves, ghosts, etc. Barnabas Collins is the vampire in the series. Harry is in the role of Vicky Winters whose point of view the series is from for the most part. I encourage anyone and everyone to go check it out. Most of the episodes are condensed and available on Youtube. :D
This artist has a very unique way of portraying Harry and Snape--that's the first thing I love about her Snarry in general. In this entry, she manages to tell a crossover story, using music that seems just made for it, and a moving motion picture technique that carries you along from frame to frame so that one leads to the other seamlessly. The ending is a surprise, but not sad or hopeless. Make sure you sit and think about who actually cast that spell. I remember Dark Shadows with fondness; her narrative, though, is sufficient to allow this to stand on its own. Like any art this artist sends our way, it's got that quality that'll have you watching it multiple times, and then going back later for more.
Title: She Who Knows the Orphan Author: dacro Team: The Snitchies! (best team evah!) Genre(s): Historical (Ancient Egypt) Prompt(s): Act of Mercy & Hunger Rating/Warnings: PG-13 Word Count: 13,400 ish Summary: After using accidental magic to turn Pharaoh's would-be assassin to stone, an orphan suddenly finds himself with new rooms, new clothes and a new title: Palace Magician. When told he must choose a personal servant for himself, he selects someone who doesn't seem long for the world – a former priest and healer accused of murder.
I don't even know where to start with this story. Maybe with my admiration for yet another author who's managed to subvert their narrative style to the times and setting of her story. Or perhaps it should be with the incredible sense of identification I developed with this Egypt of hers, her central characters Harefre and Severus (so like the canon characters, but so much belonging to this world she's created). This is a beautiful love story, a Snarry one where the familiar themes of ostracizing someone who's different, growing up without parents, being seduced by power and suffering the inevitable downfall--all of them reminiscent of canon conflicts. There's a plot that moves the piece, and a literal fleeing through fire, and in the end there's a choice. The author's obviously done her research, but has woven it so seamlessly into her story that it serves to take your 'ancient Egypt' blinders off and make you feel like you're viewing it in IMAX.
